JBL Control 89MS Above-Ground Landscape Subwoofer

The JBL Control 89MS is a weather-resistant outdoor subwoofer designed for integration with the JBL Control 80 Series landscape speakers and compatible outdoor audio systems. It features a down-firing, long-throw 200 mm (8-inch) driver capable of producing peak sound pressure levels of 115 dB with frequency response extending down to 40 Hz.

The subwoofer includes a built-in low-pass crossover with a dual-slope filter, starting with a gentle slope at the crossover frequency and transitioning to a steeper slope at higher frequencies, enabling smooth frequency blending with full-range or dedicated subwoofer amplifier outputs. It incorporates a multi-tap transformer with selectable taps and an 8-ohm bypass, allowing operation in 70V and 100V distributed systems or in low-impedance direct drive configurations.

The enclosure is constructed from polyethylene with a fully sealed center wiring chamber, rated IP56 for protection against dust and water ingress. External components, including hardware and the baffle, are made from powder-coated stainless steel to resist corrosion. The enclosure’s coloration is uniform throughout the material to maintain appearance despite surface damage.
